I have been having quite a bit of fun turning my little bird appliques into fabric on Spoonflower. Spoonflower allows you to create your own fabric. It’s pretty easy. All you have to do is upload an image and you are a fabric designer. Too fun! You should try it.

I have finally finished my bird applique quilt!
To finish the edges of the applique I used my embroidery software to digitize the stitches to embroider around the edges of each piece. Look for an article in Issue 17 of Bernina’s Through the Needle on line magazine to find out how to do this.
Patterns for the blue jay and gold finch appliques are for sale in my Pattern Store. I have also finished the pattern for the cardinals in the pillow. All of the other applique designs were designed by my friend Peggy Anne, and some are for sale at Peggy Anne’s Shop.

In August I went up to Maine with Peggy Anne to take a class with Denyse Schmidt at Alewives Fabrics in Nobleboro. I loved it! So much fun taking a traditional block and turning it into a wonky new modern design. The Shoeman’s Puzzle Quilt is from her new book.
The quilt guild that I am a member of had their quilt show yesterday. It is a nice show because it is not judged and you can bring in your favorite quilts to show. Here are the ones that I displayed.
Flower Burst
I love the coral, green and aqua colors in this quilt. It reminds me of the beach. This is the perfect size quilt for a beach blanket …. would you bring this quilt to the beach?
Cocoa Kaleidoscope
I saw quite a few people trying to see if this had curved pieces, but it doesn’t. Just a wonderful optical illusion.
